In November whilst hill walking I fell and broke my wrist and, at the elbow, my ulna and radial head. In December I was admitted to Addenbrooke's Hospital under Mr Kang. Mr Kang has excellent communication skills and is very approachable. He always maintains direct eye contact. He explains the surgical situation clearly and answers questions directly and understandably. He is encouraging, including being realistically encouraging. He talked to me in the anaesthetics room before my operation and in the recovery room as I was starting to regain consciousness. I particularly valued his post-operative care the following day. He encouraged me, despite my apprehension, to confront my surgery saying that he wanted me to try to turn my wrist so that, as the weeks passed, I would remember what I was able to achieve that morning and be encouraged as rotation gradually improved from that very low base. He then showed my two exercises that he wanted me to start immediately, and do daily. I believe these very early exercises were an invaluable base for the physio which began in early January. I saw Mr Kang in his clinic at the beginning of January and again at the end of January when I was able to tell him that, amongst other improvements, I was able to stretch my fingers to an ocatave on the piano and rotate my hands together when washing them. I was discharged from physio on 12 March. I can play the piano as before, I have started driving my gear-stick car, I can raise my arm above my shoulder, bend my elbow and point it at the ceiling and I can swim. I am most grateful for all the surgery - plates to my wrist and ulna and a new radial head. I could not have been in better hands.

I was treated by Mr Kang at Addenbrookes, he performed a right shoulder decompression. I had been in severe pain for some 4 years. After the initial consultation Mr Kang explained the reason for the pain and that the decompression would help, although as I had had the problem for some 4 years recovery may be prolonged (up to 9 months). Mr Kang offered me an operation the next week as he had a cancellation. The day of the operation Mr Kang visited me before surgery, my anaesthetist was also very understanding as I have an issue with blood pressure being too low after surgery. I could not have been better looked after by Mr Kang, his team and the other teams who support your recovery in hospital. Mr Kang visited me in recovery and explained that all had gone to plan. 8 weeks now after surgery and I have virtually full use of my right arm, it is also pain free for 95% of the time. I cannot thank Mr Kang enough for his treatment, care and personal manner.

Excellent treatment from all at the Ely Day Care Surgery Unit. Particularly pleased with the treatment from surgeon Mr Kang. Very kind in administering local anaesthetic to this nervous patient about to undergo carpal tunnel decompression operation. Having had one hand done several years ago, I was fearing the worst. But felt no pain and the operation was over much faster than I expected. After I commented that if I had a third hand I would be back - much to the amusement of Mr Kang. again thanks to all, Dr Judith Pillinger

I had a major shoulder operation at the beginning of May at Addenbrookes. When I went in I was not sure what procedure would be taken to relieve me of my pain, it was going to be a 30 min clean out but instead Mr Kang decided he do repairs to my shoulder that were needed when he started the operation. He did a 2-3 hour operation on my rotar cuff amongst other things he repaired. With all my exercises since the op my quality of life has improved immensely and I hope to return back to work in the new year has a bricklayer. I can't thank him enough, my shoulder is 95% better and I must admit I didn't think I would return to my trade again. I am very happy with my treatment and a big thank you to everybody involved with my operation.
